Oconomowoc - The Common Council has decided not to place a referendum on the April 6 ballot to ask voters whether the city should spend nearly $14 million to build a new community center, expand the city beach on Lac La Belle and reconfigure the boat launch there.Mayor Maury Sullivan told aldermen Tuesday night that it was premature to move forward with a referendum until the council determined final costs for the projects.Ald. Dave Nold wanted an advisory referendum on the ballot, contending it would give elected officials a good idea where citizens stand on spending the money. He has said he agrees the community center needs to be replaced but does not support expansion of the beach.
