Longtime MMSD official announces retirement

Mike McCabe, the first and only director of legal services for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, will retire Dec. 31 after 32 years on the job.The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District's commission Monday approved a 2010 employment contract for McCabe that will pay him $154,000 this year. The commission will discuss the search for his successor at its regular March meeting.McCabe, 67, was an assistant city attorney in Milwaukee when he was hired by the district in April 1977. Henry Maier was mayor of Milwaukee at the time and the district had not constructed its deep tunnels.
